NICE TO MEET YOU

A Bit About Me

I'm originally from New Jersey, but don't hold that against me. My college career at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia led me to the bright lights of Manhattan where I spent nearly twenty glorious years working in Marketing and Advertising for fabulous companies like L'Oreal, in what was referred to as the "Mad Men Era". Not only was it fun, but it set the stage for some wonderful experiences in the US and around the world. I was lucky enough to translate my industry work to become a part-time Professor at Arizona State University, which I had the good fortune to do for nearly a decade. I also published a weekly column in Milwaukee Magazine when I lived it that great city, ironically called "Palmer's Perspective". I'm proud to be able to continue that today, in the "BLOG" section of this website. You can read about some of my writing and marketing experiences below. .

MY CV

Writing Roles (What a riot. I have a CV!)

Arizona State University

TEMPE, ARIZONA

My wife Laura and I moved to Arizona from Milwaukee in 2015, when I said goodbye to the advertising and marketing business. It had been such a joy to work in such a great industry, and I wanted to share my experience and tell college students what a great career it was. I'd taught an evening class at Marquette Univeristy in MIlwaukee for the past three years, and I loved it, so I thought, why not keep on teaching? ASU hired me as a Professor, and I taught two Marketing classes per semester for ten wonderful years. I did a lot of writing during that time on my favorite Marketing topics, especially something called POSITIONING, which to me is the most important aspect of a successful brand. I even created a Positioning workshop. I only recently left ASU to pursue the completion of my novel. What a wonderful ride.

Milwaukee Magazine

MILWAUKEE WI

My public writing career took off when I submitted an article to Milwaukee Magazine who was looking for freelance writiers at the time. They must have liked it because they asked me to write a bi-weekly column which, appropriately, was called "Palmer's Perspective." I wrote over 100 articles and for a time my column was their highest-read blog. It was then I thought, 'hey, I need to write that book!"

L'Oréal

NEW YORK

After a highly rewarding stint at Lipton (tea and soup) in northen New Jersey right out of college, I headed to the bright lights of Manhattan and 5th Avenue. I joined the famous cosmetics and hair products company L'Oréal as Product Manager for Preference Hair Color and was part of the team that developed our famous tag line, "Because I'm Worth It" which is still in use by the company today. I was promoted to Group Product Manager and then Marketing Director, all the while polishing my wirting skills, which inherently means I was trying to get our sales department to do what I wanted. I think it worked!!
