James R. Palmer

James is the president and founder of James R. Palmer, LLC Business Consulting and Appraising and holds the Certified Business Appraiser (CBA), the Accredited by IBA (AIBA) and the Business Valuator Accredited in Litigation (BVAL) designations from The Institute of Business Appraisers.

He also holds the Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser (CMEA) designation from the National Equipment and Business Brokers Institute and was awarded the Senior Business Analyst (SBA) from the Society of Business Analysts.

James has been meeting customer service needs and solving problems in business, marketing and retail settings for over thirty years. He worked in the field of marketing for radio stations and newspapers before owning and managing his own top performing retail stores. He began consulting with business owners that wanted to improve their operations and often assisted in estimating the value of their businesses. Utilizing his real world experience in working with small- to medium-sized privately held businesses and his extensive education in the theory and practice of business valuation, James formed James R. Palmer, LLC, providing substantiated valuations of businesses, as well as machinery and equipment. The company also serves businesses and advisors to businesses with consulting services.

James R. Palmer, LLC is the Washington State affiliate office of the American Business Appraisers, LLC and the National Business Valuation Group, LLC which are composed of top national appraisers specializing in the valuation of closely held businesses.

Professional Credentials


  • Certified Business Appraiser (CBA)
    The Institute of Business Appraisers, Inc., Plantation, Florida
    This designation is awarded to candidates who have achieved over 10,000 hours of training and experience in the field of business appraising, including attending at least 90 hours of in-class course work, submitting four professional references, passing a six hour written exam which includes the critiquing of a comprehensive business appraisal and receiving approval through peer review by the Qualifications Review Committee of two comprehensive business appraising reports.
  • Accredited by the Institute of Business Appraisers (AIBA)
    The Institute of Business Appraisers, Inc., Plantation, Florida
    This designation is achieved by attending the 64-hour classroom 8001 Workshop, passing a 4-hour proctored written exam on current business valuation theory and practice and receiving approval by the Qualifications Review Committee of a comprehensive written business appraising report.
  • Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser (CMEA/SIA)
    National Equipment and Business Brokers Institute, Wichita, Kansas
    The CMEA designation is achieved through attending classroom training and passing the peer review of a demonstration report, as well as passing a proctored written examination. The SIA is awarded to qualified CMEA's by the Insurance Appraisal Group upon completion of comprehensive study and testing regarding conducting appraisals related to insurance.
  • Business Valuator Accredited for Litigation (BVAL)
    The Institute of Business Appraisers, Inc., Plantation, Florida
    This title is awarded to accredited appraisers demonstrating competence to present expert testimony supporting their independent opinions of value while adhering to professional business appraising and ethical standards.
